February - 2007

Today is the last day of my Chinese New Year holiday, and like I promised I added some more pictures to my space!  The pictures are from way back in August when I moved back to Beijing of my new apartment and the area around my apartment.  I spent this past week hanging out with friends here in Beijing.  Chinese New Years again amazed me this year!  It is totally amazing to me how many fireworks and firecrackers go off!!! and not just at night!!!  Seeing fireworks going off in the middle of the day is crazy and somewhat a waste.  On New Years Eve I went with some friends for dinner at the Capital Club, which is on the 50th floor of the Capital Mansion.  What a way to view fireworks!!!  WOW  I had a panoramic view of the city... figuring out where to look was the biggest problem the whole sky was lit up.  It was quite amazing seeing fireworks from above.  On New Years Day I went to the Lama Temple and a Temple fair experiencing yet another aspect of Chinese Culture!!!  There were people everywhere trying to get to get to the various Buddas to light insence for family members and to make wishes.  The rest of the week was spent shopping and going out at night.  Much fun was had during my week off!!!  I even found this great bar called Alpha that plays all 80's music every Friday night, this is a place I will be going back to!!!
During this week I also looked after a friends dog, Chloe.  It was great being a dog owner again for a week.  I went for lots of long walks around my neighbourhood in between all the fireworks and firecrackers.....as Chloe was petrified of the noise!!!  Now I am doing a major clean up....washing all my couch covers and bedding, because of all the hair and drool.  I had forgotten what it was like to have a dog.  Thankfully I have my Ayi (cleaning lady) coming in twice this week.
Well till next time, be well.

My Chinese New Year's Goal!!

Hi Everyone,

Just thought I would let you all know that things here in China are really good. I have settled into the city quite easily and am enjoying being closer to all the amenities. However the pollution is quite scary....some one told me recently that living in Beijing is like smoking 17 packs of cigarettes a day!!! I hope he was exaggerating but it is pretty bad! I do absolutely love my apartment though (with or without the pollution!) it is perfect for me! I will post some pictures soon of my apartment and the surrounding area, during the Chinese New Year Holiday.

I am thoroughly enjoying work. I have the best children in my class. I have 17 children enrolled in my class, I actually should be saying our class - - - I have the most amazingly sweet Chinese co-teacher, Tina! She is absolutely lovely. So our class has 17 students! This past Thursday we had our second round of parent teacher interviews and it went extremely well. All the parents are super pleased with the program and encouraged by the development of their children! The majority of the parents commented that there children love coming to school. I will post some pictures of the children as well for you to all see in the next while.

OK ...so my goal for the Chinese's New Year's is to update my web page! I will add photos from the first week I arrive back in Beijing to photos I have taken recently. I will also update my blog accordingly....then I will send an email to my whole contact list to let everyone know that it has been updated. I had lots of fun doing my blog and photo album last year but just got out of the routine towards the end. Hopefully I will be able to keep up with it for the rest of the school term.

Overall I am having a great time here. Even though some days it seems like the same old same old (much like it would be at home) There are many other days that I wake up and say I can't beleive I am in China!!! You would be amazed at the things I see on a daily basis and the things that don't effect me at all anymore!!! During the Chinese New Year I will try to put some of these strange events that happen here into words but also capture some photos of crazy things as well!!!

Till next time, for those of you who never gave up looking for an update thanks for being patient!!! for those of you who are looking at my site for the very first time...thanks for coming out! and well for those of you who totally gave up....well you are not reading it anyways!!!

Take care - - more to come soon, including some photos.
